Fine Japanese gold and black lacquer writing box (Suzuribako) and document box (Ryoshibako) late 19th century
Both boxes are lacquered gold to a black ground showing blossoming trees among a mountainous landscape, the writing box opens to show a fitted interior of stone and a silver dropper, together with a larger two-tiered box with a spotted and floral gold lacquered interior.
