Genealogical records confirm that Augusta Salome Heselton was born on February 19, 1830, in Ludlow, Vermont to John and Deborah Eaton Heselton. By 1850, the Heselton family had relocated to Watson, Allegan County, Michigan, where August married Benjamin Pratt (1807-1875), the local sheriff, in or before 1854. The couple had five children, and Augusta died on January 12, 1892.
