Lot Description

VLADIMIR TENYAEV (RUSSIAN B. 1963) WE WILL CONQUER CAPITALISM

Signed and inscribed in Russian and dated "1991" verso, oil on canvas
78 1/2 x 50 3/4 in. (199.4 x 28.9cm)
note:
This work also titled "The Kremlin War Store" appears to satirize the Soviets criticism of Western capitalism and arms dealing. The figures in this painting depict "The Red Terror" alongside Vladimir Lenin, Felix Dzerzhinski, founder of the KGB, Joseph Stalin and Lavrenti Beria. The Inquisitorial figure in Red has tatooed on his hand "Krasnii Terror" or "Red Terror". The painting notes that while the Russians were calling those in the West "Kapitalitchiskaya Akoolee" or "Capitalist Sharks", the Soviets were operating one of the largest businesses in the world in selling arms.
