[PIRACY -- AMERICAN]. Two works relating to acts of piracy perpetrated on Americans, comprising:
1.
[PARKER, George G.] Piratical Barbarity or the Female Captive Comprising the particulars of the capture of the English Sloop Eliza-Ann...and of the unparalleled sufferings of Miss Lucretia Parker. New York: S. Walker for G. G. Parker, [ca 1820]. Octavo. Frontispiece (torn along fold, old repairs). (Spotting, dampstaining, marginal fraying). Original wrappers uncut (tears and losses); modern folding case.
FIRST EDITION of this widely popular Caribbean pirate captivity narrative, with pious "moral reflections" by Parker on her miraculous deliverance from "wretches of the most frightful and ferocious appearance-blood-thirsty monsters."
2.
SOREN, John. The Narrative of Mr. John Soren, a Native of the United States of America, Piratically Captured on their High Seas. Reprinted in Boston: n.p., 1800. Octavo. (A few mostly marginal repairs, spotting and staining.) Modern half leather, the sheets uncut.
FIRST AMERICAN EDITION, describing the piratical capture "in requital for an act of humanity, in saving a British transport, with near 300 troops on board, from sinking," and appended by a letter from the American Minister. First published London, and reprinted in Boston "for the Relief of Mr. Soren and his Family."
