Octavo. Engraved frontispiece; engraved folding map of Kerguelen (short tear to fold); numerous illustrations. Later half morocco (joints just starting, lightly rubbed). Provenance: B. B. Kingsford (signature on flyleaf, 23 December 1849 and signature on title-page); J.K.P. (small pencil note on title-page). 

FIRST EDITION of Nunn's account of his experience being stranded on Kerguelen Island, which was known to British seamen as Desolation Island at the time.  Nunn was member to a party of crewmen from the ship Favorite who were stranded during a sealing expedition and left behind by the captain. They were marooned on the island for two years before they were rescued.  Sabin 56339; Spence, Antarctic Bibliography 868.
