Lot Description
Two Japanese Swords
1.) WWII-era Japanese Kai Gunto - 25.5" nagasa. 38.5" overall with tsuka and saya. Shinogi zukuri blade with sugu hamon and ihori mune. Tsuka has brown ito, black leather same wrapping, and matching cherry blossom menukis. Saya is polished rayskin with gilt cherry blossom hangers and fittings. Tsuba is three pieces and shows sunbursts to both sides. Tsuka could not be removed to check for nakago or mei signature.
2.) Japanese Katana - 27.5" nagasa. 38.5" overall with tsuka and saya. Shingoi zukuri blade with two hole nakago and full mei to one side. Blade has a sugu hamon, mosame hada, ihori mune, and o-kissaki. Tsuka has black ito, white same, matching menuki, and matching shakudo fuchi and kashira showing various scenes of animals. Tsuba is iron, and appears to be chiseled with scenes of a human figure amongst mountains and a tree. Saya appears to have been covered with black lacquer at some point that has mostly flaked away. Cutout to left side of saya is signed with mei.
