Three Sunderland Luster Inscribed Jugs
English, 19th Century
comprising one jug with farmers' coat of arms and inscription for Eliza Gilbert / 1824; and two marriage jugs inscribed for John & Mary Ann Peckett, 1850 and Willm. & Harriott Moon, 1829.
each with transfer text and images, and hand-painted decoration.
Height of tallest 8 1/4 inches.
Genealogical records confirm that a William Moon (1805-1839) married Harriott Chatfield (1803-?) on August 6, 1827, at St. Clement's Church, Hastings, Sussex. The couple had one son, John, before William's death. A John (1832-1886) and Mary Anne (circa 1830-1909) Peckett, variably spelled Picket and Pricket, are identified as living in Witney County, Oxfordshire in the England Census of 1881.
