the verso of one painting further inscribed Dédié à Madame La Comtesse Wilton / par son très humble serviteur / Frédéric Roux [Dedicated to Countess Wilton / by her very humble servant / Frédéric Roux].
Lady Margaret Stanley (1801-1858), daughter of the 12th Earl of Derby, married Thomas Grovesnor Egerton, 2nd Earl of Wilton in 1821, becoming the Countess Wilton referred to here. An avid sailor, Lord Wilton was a founding member of the Royal Mersey Yacht Club in 1844 and later served as Commodore of the Royal Yacht Squadron from 1849 until 1881.
