Vallandigham, C.L. (1820-187), Ohio politician, during the American Civil War was leader of the Peace Democrats or "Copperheads."
The recipient's husband, Charles O'Conor (1804-1884), was a prominent American lawyer, senior counsel for Jefferson Davis on his indictment for treason, he ran in the U.S. Presidential election of 1872.
