Lot Description

Civil War items relating to Captain Theodore Weber Bean (1833-1891) montgomery county, pennsylvania, 1860-1860

Including a leather covered glass flask inscribed "Gettysburg July 1863" and "Appomattox April 1865" on one side, also inscribed "Bean Norristown" on base; together with framed officer's bars and pin accompanied by the handwritten notes "Worn in Grant's Campaign against Richmond commencing May 4 1864. Also Sheriden's famous Valley Campaign against early closing at Cedar Creek Oct 19 1864" and " Worn in Grant's Campaign against Lee at Petersburg Commencing at Fire Falls April 1st 1865 and closing at Appomattox C.H. April 9th 1865"

Theodore Weber Bean served in the 162 Regiment of Pennsylvania Volunteers, more commonly called the 17th Pennsylvania Calvary Regiment. He wrote a history of that company, The Roll of Honor of the Seventeenth Pennsylvania Calvary or One hundred & Sixty Second of the Line-Pennsylvania Volunteers, in 1899 and A History of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania in 1884.
