FIRST EDITION, SIGNED BY WALKER on the title-page. Walker's second novel, described as her "meditation on the modern civil rights movement," focuses on Meridian Hill, who embraces the civil rights movement in the 1960s while attending the fictitious Saxon College, and follows her continued efforts to support the movement into the 1970s.
