FIRST EDITION of Updike’s first book with code "B-H" on copyright page. PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY UPDIKE: “For Alexander J. Jemal, Jr. this dear green oldie cheers, John Updike.” IN THE FIRST STATE DUST JACKET with “two children” in biographical information. The collection's seventh poem, "Why the Telephone Wires Dip and the Poles Are Cracked and Crooked," is inscribed on the reverse side of Updike’s gravestone.
