SIGNED BY ALAN SHEPARD, ALAN BEAN, RICHARD GORDON, WALLY SCHIRRA, GORDON COOPER, WALT CUNNINGHAM, JAY BARBREE, HOWARD BENEDICT, AND BOBBIE SLAYTON on bookplate affixed to front free endpaper. On May 5, 1961, Alan Shepard became the second man (and the first American) in space; ten years later Shepard became the fifth man and the only member of the Mercury Seven to walk on the moon, famously hitting two golf balls on the lunar surface.
