8vo. Original maroon cloth-backed grey boards lettered in silver on upper cover and spine; publisher’s dust jacket (spine panel very slightly faded).
FIRST AMERICAN EDITION, which preceded the English edition by several weeks, of Rushdie’s second novel describing India’s transition from British colonial rule to independence and partition. Midnight’s Children sold over one million copies in the United Kingdom alone, and was awarded the Booker Prize in 1981; it would later be awarded the Booker of Bookers Prize in 1993.
