FIRST AMERICAN EDITION of Puig's work, first published in Spanish, the source for the 1985 film of the same name starring William Hurt, Raul Julia, and Sônia Braga, and directed by Héctor Babenco. The film premiered at Cannes in 1985, and Hurt won Best Actor at the Academy Awards.
