[EARLY PHOTOG.]. 23 oval & octagonal Union cases, incl. sixteenth, ninth, & sixth plate examples.
The lot is comprised of the following:
2 sixth plate oval Union cases, including: Case with geometric/scroll design [Berg 3-408] containing tintype of a young woman standing beside a chair. -- Case with geometric/scroll design [Berg 3-406] containing miniature painting of a woman wearing a bonnet.
2 sixth plate octagonal Union cases, including: Case with geometric design [Berg 3-218] containing daguerreotype of toddler-aged child. -- A Game of Chess case [Berg 1-122] containing tintype of gentleman.
5 ninth plate oval Union cases, including: 2 cases with floral/scroll motifs, one containing 2 tintypes of a young man and a young woman, possibly sweethearts. The second contains a daguerreotype of a confident young man. -- Case with geometric design containing tintype of a bearded fellow. -- Moses in the Bulrushes 3 [Berg 1-170] containing tintype of smiling toddler. -- Catching Butterflies 2 [Berg 1-172] containing daguerreotype of young woman.
5 ninth plate octagonal Union cases, including: 2 with geometric/scroll designs, one containing ambrotype of a middle-aged woman wearing a checkered dress. The second contains 2 tintypes of a man and woman, possibly husband and wife. -- 3 cases with floral/scroll motifs, each containing a tintype of a man.
3 sixteenth plate oval Union cases, including: 2 geometric cases, one with gilt detail at center [Berg 3-450G] containing tintype of a man. The second case contains a tintype of a couple. -- Sword and Branch case [2-113] containing tintype of man.
6 sixteenth plate Union cases with floral or geometric designs, one of which contains a daguerreotype portrait of a young woman. The remaining cases contain tintype portraits of men and women of varying ages.
Together, 23 Union cases ranging in size from sixteenth plate to sixth plate, containing daguerreotypes and tintypes of men, women, and children. Cases in generally good to very good condition. Images range in condition from good to very good.
