Lot Description

[CIVIL WAR - EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. 9 cased images highlighted by 2 portraits of Civil War soldiers. 


Quarter plate ruby ambrotype of a soldier standing in a studio with rifle with bayonet. His coat is lightly tinted blue. The edge of the studio rug is visible near the lower portion of the frame and a chair can be seen near the right edge (focus soft, some edge wear to plate). Housed under mat, preserver, and cover glass, but uncased. -- Ninth plate tintype, seated portrait of a sergeant, his chevrons obscured by the mat (discoloration, wear to plate). Housed in full pressed paper case (fully separated at hinge). 

[With:] 3 sixth plate daguerreotypes, including 2 portraits of men (each uncased), and a portrait of a young woman (housed in half case). -- Sixth plate clear ambrotype (housed in half case) and ninth plate ruby ambrotype (uncased) of young women wearing patterned dresses. -- Quarter plate tintype of an unhappy looking couple, the woman dressed in a dress adorned with a fancy pattern (housed in full pressed paper case separated at hinge). -- Ninth plate tintype portrait of a man wearing a wide brimmed hat and large bowtie (significant wear to edges). 

Together, 9 cased images. Condition fair to good.
