Lot Description

[CIVIL WAR]. A group of 19 CDVs of Union officers and enlistedmen, some identified. 


The lot is comprised of 19 CDVs, including the following subjects:

John McGrath, Surgeon, 78th Pennsylvania Volunteers. Philadelphia, PA: J. Cremer & Co. Signed in lower margin. -- Louis Siebert, 4th New York Cavalry, Captain and Assistant Adjutant General, US Volunteers. New York: Glosser, 1864. Identified or signed on verso, "Capt. L. Siebert, A.A.G., Cavalry Corps, Army of Potomac, Stephensburg, VA, 29 Jan. 1864." -- CDV, seated officer identified on verso as "Dr. Wolverton." Possibly William Wolverton, US Army Medical Staff, although cannot confirm. Boston, MA: S. Masury. -- CDV, soldier standing in a studio with his knapsack, identified on verso as "William Tracy." New York: Brady. -- Henry List, likely 189th Ohio Infantry. Cincinnati, OH: Hoag & Quick's Art Palace, ca 1864-1865. 2-cent US Internal Revenue stamp on verso. -- J.D. Pierce, possibly Joseph Pierce, 7th California Infantry (signed in lower margin below image). San Francisco, CA: Bradley & Rulofson, ca 1864-1865. 2-cent US Internal Revenue stamp on verso. -- W.H. Schuffelin, regiment unknown. New York: Fredricks & Co. -- Wesley Wilson, possibly of the Ohio 1st Light Artillery, although cannot be confirmed. Newark, OH: C. Hempsted. Identified as "Cousin Wesley Wilson" on verso (light horizontal crease to print and mount, toning). -- W.W. Smith, regiment unknown. San Francisco, CA: Bradley & Rulofson, ca 1864-1865. Verso with autograph and 2-cent US Internal Revenue stamp. -- Double-amputee identified on verso as "Nickolus Robinalt." St. Johns, MI: L.W. Thornton. No further information has been discovered about the subject, who appears wear civilian clothing. 

[With:] 9 CDVs of unidentified Civil War soldiers, mostly officers, many posed with swords, including a trio of armed officers. Nashville, TN: T.M. Schleier. -- Seated view of a young first lieutenant, with sword in one hand and hat in the other. St. Louis, MO: A.J. Fox. -- And 7 other views credited to photographers in Washington, DC (Whitehurst Gallery, Baum & Burdine), Philadelphia, PA (G.D. Wise), Cincinnati, OH (Winder's Photograph Gallery), and New Orleans, LA (W.H. Leeson). 

Together, 19 CDVs of Union officers and enlistedmen. Conditions vary, several toned. Most feature light to moderate soiling along with wear to mount edges and corners.
