[CIVIL WAR]. A group of 27 CDVs of Union generals and other officers, incl. SEDGWICK, THOMAS, BUTLER, HANCOCK, MCDOWELL, NUGENT, and MILLER.
The lot is comprised of 27 CDVs, including the following subjects:
William Rosecrans. New York: Brady, n.d. (trimmed edges, top left corner clipped). -- Irvin McDowell. Washington, DC: R.W. Addis, n.d. (mount with light horizontal crease in lower portion and edge wear). -- John Sedgwick, KIA Spotsylvania Court House (2). First, New York: Brady, Anthony, n.d. Second, uncredited, n.d. (light soiling to margins). -- Francis Preston Blair, Jr. Washington, DC: Alexander Gardner, photographer, Philp & Solomons, publisher, n.d. (mount edges trimmed). -- Montgomery C. Meigs. Washington, DC: Alexander Gardner, photographer, Philp & Solomons, publisher, n.d. (mount edges trimmed). -- Winfield Scott Hancock. New York: Brady, Anthony, ca 1865. 2-cent US Internal Revenue stamp on verso. -- George Henry Thomas. Uncredited, n.d. 2-cent US Internal Revenue stamp on verso (bottom corners of mount clipped). -- Egbert Ludovicus Viele. New York: Rintoul & Rockwood, n.d. Viele is shown in civilian clothing, posed with a young girl, possibly one of his children. -- Michael Corcoran. New York: Charles D. Fredricks & Co., n.d. (right edge of print and mount trimmed, some surface loss to left edge of mount). -- Robert Nugent. New York: Charles D. Fredricks & Co., n.d. (edge wear to mount). Nugent was brevetted brigadier general in 1865 for distinguished leadership of the 69th New York Infantry. -- Nathaniel P. Banks (2). Washington, DC: Alexander Gardner, photographer, Philp & Solomons, publisher, n.d. -- Robert Anderson (possibly after lithograph/engraving). New York: Anthony, 1861. Title and publication printed in lower margin of mount indicating that the portrait was taken at Fort Sumter, 8 February 1861. -- Winfield Scott. New York: Charles D. Fredricks & Co., 1862 (mount edges trimmed, small chip near lower left edge of print).

Louisville, KY: Godshaw & Flexner, ca 1864-1865 (some soiling to print and mount, top corners of mount trimmed). A vignetted portrait of Johnson as lieutenant colonel of the 11th Indiana Cavalry, autographed by Johnson below portrait ("Truly Yours, G.M.L. Johnson"). Johnson was breveted brigadier general between 1865-1866. -- Charles Doolittle, WIA Gaines' Mill. Uncredited, n.d. Autographed by Doolittle below portrait ("Chs. Doolittle, Brig. Genl. USA"). -- Nicholas J. Vail. Uncredited, ca 1863-1864. A portrait of Vail as major of the 14th USCT, autographed below portrait ("Respectfully Yours, N.J. Vail, Major 14th USCT"). Vail was breveted brigadier general in 1865. -- James Blair Steedman. Uncredited, 1864. 2-cent US Internal Revenue stamp on verso, dated Sept. 1864 (print partially separated from mount at lower left corner). -- Robert Milroy. Uncredited, n.d. (clipped corners). -- John Frank Miller (2), severely wounded, losing his left eye, in a fight at Liberty Gap. First, Nashville, TN: J.H. Van Stavoren's Metropolitan Gallery, H. Hall, photog., n.d. Second, San Francisco, CA: Bradley & Rulofson, 1860s. 2-cent US Internal Revenue stamp on verso, dated Nov. 186?. -- Shoulder-length portrait of a brigadier general who. bears a resemblance to Joshua Chamberlain, although we have been unable to positively identify the subject. Portland, ME: B.F. Smith & Son, n.d. (light spotting, few light vertical creases in mount).
Together, 27 images of Union generals and other officers, including 26 CDVs and one cabinet card. Condition generally good unless otherwise noted.
