Lot Description

[NATIVE AMERICANS]. MCKENNY, A.S., photographer. CDV of Ute Indians in a studio setting. Blackhawk, Colorado Territory. Ca 1870.

2 1/4 x 3 in. CDV on cardstock mount (edges clipped, toning, soiling, and spotting throughout; verso with adhesive residue). Housed in a half pressed paper case with added fob (separation to upper edge, exterior wear). Verso bears McKenny's National Gallery of Art imprint along with faint pencil inscription reading, "Ute Indians, Colo Territory."

Standing portrait of two subjects, the one of the viewer's right wears a German silver hair drop with beaded medallions. The subject on the viewer's left also wears a beaded medallion and holds a quirt.
