Lot Description

[WESTERN AMERICANA]. HILLERS, John K. (1843-1925), photographer. Making Pictures. Aquarius Plateau, Utah Territory.

6 1/16 x 4 in. stereoview on cardstock mount (light toning, minor spotting; mount trimmed, and with wear to edges and corners). Verso features affixed paper label with series information, image number, image title, and photographer's credit. 

Made as part of J. W. Powell's Geological and Geographical Survey of the Territories, this image features photographer John K. Hillers in the field surrounded by photographic equipment including implements and supplies. He seems to be studying a negative plate, and his hands appear blackened.
