Lot Description
[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. Quarter plate ambrotype of an aged gentleman holding up an affectionate note to his daughter. Ca 1862.
Seated portrait of a bespectacled gentleman with untidy hair, holding a piece of paper that reads, "Cheryl, my dear Daughter, this small New year Gift, preserve it, and hereafter, when I am gone, cherish it, in affectionate Remembrance of your Father...1862." (Few small spots of loss, very good clarity; unsealed.) Housed in a Rare Union case with geometric design [Berg 3-42] (nicking and chipping to case edges, heavy wear to velvet pad, non-functioning closure clasp). The elderly subject's cheeks are lightly tinted pink, and near him hangs a tasseled cord, likely a studio prop.
