8vo. Original blue cloth, lettered in silver (spine and upper and fore-edges sunned, a touch of wear to extremities); publisher's dust jacket (slight chipping, some light toning); folding case.
FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE, with the year "1946" printed on the title-page. One of 1,000 unnumbered copies, North & South was Bishop's first book, and the winner of the Houghton Mifflin Fellowship Award for poetry.
