Lot Description
Large Louis Vuitton steamer trunk early 20th century
Fully outfitted; standing vertically and opening to reveal six graduated drawers with leather pulls on one side and twenty carved wooden hangers (and one straight trouser hanger) on chrome-plated fold-out bars, a felt-lined covered shoe box at the bottom. Covered in signature LV canvas with wooden slats and heavy brass hardware, printed leather-type "LV" trim; bearing the initials "G.D.W." and painted with double-stripe of light and dark green. Measuring approximately 43 1/2" W x 25 1/2" H x 21 1/2" D.
NOTE:
The color of the painted stripes on the trunk correspond to the colors George D. Widener's horse stables and racing silks. There is stong evidence this trunk belonged to him.
