(folds, scattered marks, pencil notations). Lee responds to a note from Ayres indicating that "Mrs. Lee's condition is surely if slowly improving each day." He indicates she was sick with typhoid fever. Accompanied by envelope addressed to "Mrs. Capt. Ayres" in Washington, D.C.

(folds, scattered marks, pencil notations).  Lee writes, in part, that he has received their telegram and indicates his plans to head to Fort Riley to visit his friends Captain and Mrs. Slocum.
