Lot Description

[CIVIL WAR - WESTERN THEATER - TRANS-MISSISSIPPI THEATER]. BRADY, Mathew (1822-1896), photographer. A group of 33 CDVs of Union generals and officers, incl. MCPHERSON, HALLECK, MCCLERNAND, MITCHELL, GILLMORE, MILROY, & FRY.


The following CDVs include a Brady and/or Anthony imprint to mount recto and/or verso: James Barnet Fry, provost marshal general. -- James B. McPherson, KIA Battle of Atlanta 7/22/1864. -- Robert Byington Mitchell. -- James Lawlor Kiernan. -- Napoleon J.T. Dana. -- Henry W. Halleck. -- Robert Milroy. -- 2 views of Christopher C. Augur, one credited to Brady, one uncredited. --  John A. McClernand. -- Charles Pomeroy Stone. -- William S. Harney. -- John G. Foster. -- Robert Anderson. -- Joseph K. Knipe. -- Charles Henry Davis, rear admiral. -- David Dixon Porter, admiral. -- Brigadier general tentatively identified as "Brown." -- Brigadier general tentatively identified as "Cattim," identification difficult to discern (horizontal crease in mount). -- Standing brigadier general, identification difficult to discern. -- Unidentified captain. -- First lieutenant identified as "Doc G." -- Possible first lieutenant tentatively identified as "McKee."

Uncredited, 2 cent revenue stamp on verso. -- Vignetted view of an unidentified captain. Washington, DC: Philp & Solomons. -- Standing view of an officer in uniform, possibly European. Applied paper label on verso with photographer's blindstamp, difficult to discern (pinhole in top edge of print and mount). 

Together, 33 CDVs of Union generals and other officers. Condition generally good unless otherwise noted, with some toning, occasional spotting and staining. Most with minor curve to print and mount.
