Lot Description

[GOLD MINING]. Cheyenne Daily Leader. Vol. VIII, No. 209. Cheyenne, Wyoming Territory: H. Glafcke, 25 May 1876. Early news report of the discovery of gold in the Black Hills.

4pp., folio, 15 1/2 x 21 1/4 in. Disbound (partially separated at central fold, chipping, short tears, and some loss at edges, light toning to margins and at central horizontal fold).

A rare, early Wyoming Territory newspaper containing coverage of the discovery of gold in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Cheyenne was the "jumping off" point for many miners trying to get to the gold mines of the Black Hills and thus was a primary source of Black Hills Gold Rush news.
