Lot Description

[NATIVE AMERICANS]. Execution of the Thirty-Eight Sioux Indians at Mankato, December 26, 1862. Buffalo, NY: Hayes Litho Co., 1883.


21 1/4 x 16 3/4 in. lithograph laid down on board (light toning to margins, some light chipping and wear at edges). Lower margin with 1883 copyright line for John C. Wise, Washington, DC. 

This mass execution was the largest in US history and occurred in the aftermath of the Sioux uprising of 1862 in which over 400 settlers were killed. A scarce lithograph.
