Lot Description

DODGE, Jacob Richards (1823-1902). Red Men of the Ohio Valley: an Aboriginal History. Springfield, OH: Ruralist Publishing Company, 1860.


12mo. Steel-engraved frontispiece. Original blind-stamped green cloth, spine gilt-lettered (spine very slightly faded, a few discreet stains). 

Second edition, preceded by an edition of 1859 which is unrecorded by Sabin. Either edition is uncommon at auction. Includes accounts of the Indian Wars and captivities in Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois, an account of the Moravian missions, and a Wyandot vocabulary. Howes D-398; Sabin 20499.
