Lot Description

[LINCOLN, Abraham (1809-1865)]. A group of 12 CDVs of political figures, highlighted by a standing portrait of Abraham Lincoln.


CDV, standing portrait of Abraham Lincoln. Washington, DC: Brady's National Photographic Portrait Galleries, [1864] (light vertical crease near right edge of image, original to print before being mounted). Originally taken by Mathew Brady in Washington, DC, on 8 January 1864 (O-86). 

[With:] 3 CDVs credited to Brady, Washington, DC, including: William Dennison, Jr., 24th governor of Ohio and US Postmaster General in Lincoln's cabinet during the Civil War. -- James Shields, Irish American politician, US Senator, and US Army officer. -- Unidentified gentleman (soiling to verso). 

[Also with:] 2 commercially printed CDVs of Abraham Lincoln. -- Commercially printed CDV of Edwin Stanton, Lincoln's Secretary of War (staining to verso). -- Standing portrait of a well-dressed gentleman, possibly European, holding a top hat and cane. Naples: Alphonse Bernoud. -- 4 CDVs of unidentified men of varying ages, one credited to William Klauser, New York, one credited to Doremus, Paterson, NJ, and 2 uncredited images. 

Together, 12 CDVs, condition generally good, with toning, occasional staining, and edge and corner wear to mounts.
