Zelda Fitzgerald Material: Fitzgerald, Zelda. Save Me the Waltz. New York: Scribner's, 1932. First edition. 12mo, orig. green cloth; light to moderate wear & minor dust soiling. Zelda Fitzgerald's copy.
This copy was given by Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald to her sister, Rosalind Sayre Smith in 1932; in 1963 it was given by Rosalind Sayre Smith to the writer Kendall Taylor, a Fitzgerald scholar & author of Sometimes Madness is Wisdom: Zelda and Scott Fitzgerald, A Marriage, New York, 2001.
One typed & two autograph letters signed by Rosalind Sayer Smith in 1964 to Kendall Taylor [then Frances Taylor] are also included in this lot. These letters refer to F. Scott & Zelda Fitzgerald. One reads in part : "The fortune-teller did a good job on Scott, as he was in his Ashville days. I saw him there... and remember him as the floundering wreck she describes. Poor devil! I always was sorry for him while detesting him."
A signed letter by Dr. Kendall Taylor giving the history of this copy of Save Me the Last Waltz is also included. In addition, this lot contains a copy of Kendall Taylor's Sometimes Madness is Wisdom, New York, 2001 & a facsimile of the d/j for Save Me the Waltz.
