FINE CARVED GILTWOOD & MARBLE TOP CONSOLE TABLE, BY PAUL SORMANI

The molded green marble top above a frieze carved with laurel leaf swags, raised on acanth-carved fluted square tapered legs united by stretchers, ending in hairy hoof feet, stamped 'Sormani, Paris' in two places. H: 32, W: 55, D: 31 in.Footnote: Paul Somani (fl.1847-1935). The Sormani firm was esablished for eighty seven years and was located at 7 Cimetiere Saint-Nicholas form 1847-54 and then at 114 rue du Temple. They then moved to 10 rue Charlot where after Pauls death his wife continued the business and then by the son Paul-Charles until 1934. Sormani exhibited in several of the Exhibitions and reproduced Louis XV and XVI style furniture as well as a number of pieces in a modified Louis XV & XVI style.
