(American & British Theatre Material.) Archive relating to the prominent theatre producer Gilbert Miller (1884-1970). Miller was active as a producer, theatre owner & sometime director on Broadway & London from 1904-1965. The material in this archive spans the period 1920-1960, most of the material represents the years 1935-1955. This archive holds approx. 3,500 pieces, these include typed & autograph letters from playwrights & other authors & adapters, performers, other theatre & motion picture producers; these letters are often accompanied by Miller's production company's copies of their own letters. The archive also includes many signed Actors' Equity & other contracts, a few original stage set design drawings, 8 x 10 photos of several productions, playbills & other ephemera, letterheads of Hollywood studios, Broadway & London theatre production companies.
