Two Japanese Porcelain Vases
Satsuma vase: 18th Century; blue and white vase: 20th Century
the first a satsuma aubergine glazed example made for use at chief castle of Lord Shimadzu, the pear-shaped body rising to a flaring mouth rim, the recessed neck applied with a pair of mask-form handles, the underside bearing a seven-character mark reading Made by Tateno for use at head castle; the second a blue and white example decorated with floral blossoms.
Height of taller 22 1/4 in., 56.5 cm.
