Lot Description
Chanel Dress, 1985
After four decades at Chanel, Lagerfeld earned a legacy as a creative force that reinvigorated the heritage label, infusing it with postmodern playfulness while honoring its roots. Equally versed in the languages of popular culture and the craft and traditions of couture, a combination described as ‘high fashion and high camp’, Lagerfeld’s reinvention of the brand and marketing savvy created a voracious appetite among young buyers, sealing the fate of the iconic double CC logo into this century’s visual lexicon.
For the Spring/Summer 1985 Ready-to-Wear colection Lagerfeld "took the classic Chanel suit firmly into the age of the miniskirt, disregarding Coco Chanel's famous displike of knees on display (a "woman who can show her elbows can show her knees," Lagerfeld declared) and continuing his metamorphosis of the iconic garment."
Cream silk dress with crew neckline, tonal topstitching trim detail, set in short sleeves, gathered waist band, two front chest patch pockets, and double set gold-tone "CC" button closure.
