A FRANS WILDENHAIN STUDIO POT

Hand-thrown with "crumpled" top, the bottom with an earthy brown glaze, top with an organic green glaze, hash mark signature, h: 8 in. Born in Germany, Frans enrolled at the Bauhaus in 1924 studying under Josef Albers, Paul Klee and Max Krehan, among others. Conscripting to fight for Germany during World War II, Frans came to America in 1947 and joined his wife Marguerite, a Bauhaus-trained potter. He taught at the Rochester Institute of Technology for 20 years, in addition to producing his own work.
