Folio (350 x 462 mm). Title-page, contents-leaf, leaf of text, and 24 color or duotone lithographed plates by Julius Bien, some double-page. Original gilt-lettered cloth. Provenance: Willimantic, CT city library (inkstamp on front free endpaper; with letters from Superintendent of Documents laid in). 

FIRST EDITION of Hague's detailed atlas of Yellowstone Valley and Park, with topographical contour maps, striking color geological maps, maps of the hot springs and geyser basins, etc. Phillips 5115; Schwartz & Ehrenberg, plate 195 & pp. 314-5 ("Brief descriptive text and maps depicting the area's topography, geological formations, deposits of economic value, and the underground structure of the rocks. More than 50 design patterns were used on the geological maps to identify the various classes of sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic rocks within the U.S.").
