A Salesman's Sample or Patent Model of a Physician's Table
Late 19th Century
with plaque to underside of stationary tabletop reading, Pat'd Dec. 6, 1892.
Height 13 1/2 x width 13 3/4 x depth 6 1/4 inches.
John W. Kales of Franklinville, New York was granted a patent for his "Improvements in Physician's Tables" on December 6, 1892 (patent no. 487,625). The adjustable frame of his table allowed doctors to "render more convenient the positions of the subject" during gynecological examinations and surgical procedures.[1]
