In part: "We whose names are here attached promise to pay to Hamilton Stone, Treasurer of the Kansas emigrating aid Company, the sum set opposite our respective names, to be appropriated for the purpose of aiding emigrants who shall pledge themselves to emigrate to Kansas, and there remain until the political organization of Kansas as a State shall be determined." No names are listed, possibly indicating that this is a draft for a printer. 

A rare artifact from one of the many emigration societies that arose on both sides of the Bleeding Kansas conflict. There were several groups that sent abolitionist settlers to Kansas including the New England Emigrant Aid Company, Connecticut Kansas Colony, and the Emigrant Aid Society of Northern Ohio. Here, the Kansas Emigrant Aid Company represents the pro-slavery advocates. The territory would be the site of a proxy war fought between the two factions in the lead-up to the Civil War.
