A Chinese Mother-of-Pearl Inlaid Huanghuali Seal Chest
Qing Dynasty (1644-1912)
清 黃花梨嵌寳人物故事圖官皮箱
of rectangular form, set above a plinth base decorated with chrysanthemum sprays carved from mother-of-pearl. Set at the side with bail handles above mother-of-pearl antiques, which miniature versions running about the perimeter of the folding top, which is secured with a hexafoil ruyi pendant lockplate above a quatrefoil example and shaped hinges at the single panel doors, which conceal a nest of plain pull-out drawers. The top and doors each worked utilizing the ethereal shell tones to depict immortals gathering amidst craggy outcroppings of rockery and wisps of vegetation.
