Lot Description

Two Chinese Wood Figures 
Han Dynasty (206 BC-220 AD)

comprising a tall standing figure carved from a single log, shown with hands gathered under wide flaring cuffs, and stylized shoes peaking out beneath the a draped hem, and a carved and polychrome painted figure of a deer, the body rendered from a single wide section, punctuated with a conical upturned tail, all resting atop four curvilinear legs, individuated as rear and front with bulging hindquarters and delicate shins, respectively. The head held aloft above the neck and supported with dowels, drilled to receive ear and antlers branching over a curious expression and mouth held just agape. The whole with traces of ochre pigment and patches of dappled spots, bespoke lucite stand. 
Height of the deer 29 3/4 in., 75.56 cm, height of the lady 27 15/16 in., 70.96 cm.
