[Tipped in:] TYPED LETTER SIGNED BY KIPLING: "Dear Madam, I am in receipt of yours of October 14 in which you do me the honour of asking me to speak for the Richmond Branch of the League at a public meeting. I heard from Sir Henry Prendergast by the same post and have written him that I am sorry that I am unable to do this. I can only express to you my regret that I am not able to avail myself of your invitation."
