Lot Description
[EXPLORATION -- MIDDLE EAST]. ELPHINSTONE, Mountstuart (1779-1859). An Account of the Kingdom of Caubul, and its Dependencies, in Persia, Tartary, and India. London: Richard Bentley, 1839.
2 volumes, 8vo (216 x 133 mm). Hand-colored lithograph frontispieces, folding map, one plate. (Some offsetting, some light toning or staining, map detached with tears.) Later half calf gilt, red and green leather lettering-pieces gilt, edges marbled (some light wear).
“New and revised edition” of the report from 1808-1809, containing many details related to Afghan history, culture, Pashto words, geography and memoirs.
