Lot Description
[THEATRE]. A group of 2 broadsides promoting performances at Grover's Theatre, Washington, DC, and Walnut Street Theatre, Philadelphia, which is headlined by Campbells Minstrels. 1862-1863.
Grover's Theatre...Twenty-Sixth Appearance of the young, beautiful, able Actress Miss Lucille Western, Pearl of the American Stage!...Will appear for the Eleventh Time in the most Successful Play of the Season...the Most Exemplary Drama of the Day, East Lynne, or, the Elopement. [Washington, D.C.]: H. Polkinhorn, 25 November 1862. 8 1/2 x 24 in. printed broadside (minor creasing): framed, 14 x 28 1/2 in. (not examined out of frame).
Lucille Western (1843-1877) was a successful actress traveling extensively from 1861 through 1865. Her sister Helen, also an actress, was a one-time girlfriend of John Wilkes Booth.
