Lot Description

[CIVIL WAR]. Sixth plate tintype featuring a double-armed Union cavalryman. 


Sixth plate seated portrait of a Union cavalryman posed against a fine painted backdrop. (Great clarity, some light surface texture; unsealed.) Housed in a full pressed paper case with patriotic motif (light surface wear). The Federal cavalryman sits next to a table surmounted by his McDowell cap, bearing gold-highlighted crossed saber insignia, the number "11" above, and letter "L" below. He wears a belt with gold-highlighted Model 1851 belt plate, and holds a Colt Army revolver in one hand and a heavy cavalry saber in the other.
