Seavey writes to a "Mr. Oliver," about furnishing some "slack claim bait" that Captain Elisha Newcomb was unable to supply. The Federal Census of 1860 lists an Elisha Newcomb being 61 years old, living in Scarborough, ME, and having the occupation of "Sea Captain." The Census for the following decade lists (perhaps the same) Elisha Newcomb, age 73, of Scarborough Maine as a "Clam Digger."
