A PAIR OF CHINESE ANCESTOR PORTRAITS
18th c., ink and color on paper mounted on silk
He wears a purple robe emblazoned with the duck badge of rank and sits on a blue fabric draped throne atop a dragon carpet, with a descriptive attached colophon which reads in part "In praise of the honorable Tao-Chieun Kon...written by his humble friend, Han Nan Shih, in April 1733"; she wears a red robe emblazoned with the dove badge of rank and sits on a yellow fabric draped throne atop a crane decorated carpet, with a descriptive attached colophon which reads in part "Biography of grand mother Hu Ma...written by Lu Yao Tou for her grandson in the spring of 1743", minor restorations, with matching frames,dimensions: 60 in. x 18.5 in., 52 in. x 19 in.
