An Apricot Ground Embroidered Silk Lady’s Informal Robe
19TH CENTURY

清晚期 杏綢盤金綉萬子不到頭百子團龍紋女袍
of wide short section, the apricot ground of plain weave finely embroidered utilizing gilt-wrapped threads as a background of toothed hatches against large dragon roundels worked with couched scales and details, including ruyi cloud borders in polychrome floss surrounded by a multitude of spirited boys and outlined double-gourds worked to each edge in a palette of blues with truncated flower petals; all above a terrestrial diagram and wide gilt stripe reserving zodiac roundels. Lined in blue silk and finished with black ground edging at the side closure and before the cream cuffs decorated with dense floral scrolls. 
Length 48 1/2 x width 41 1/2., 123.2 x 105.4 cm.
