Lot Description

[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. A group of 23 daguerreotype and tintype portraits of subjects with glasses, including:


Quarter plate daguerreotype portrait of a long-haired gentleman wearing glasses and clasping his hands in front of him. (Tarnishing to edges, spotting to plate, heavy oxidation to mat; unsealed.) Housed in a fully separated pressed paper case (surface wear, discoloration and wear to velvet pad). -- Sixth plate portrait of a young lady wearing glasses. N.p.: Broadbent, n.d. (Tarnishing to edges, spotting to plate and mat; retains portions of original seal.) Housed in a half pressed paper case (heavy surface wear). Mat stamped for Broadbent. -- Sixth plate portrait of a possible member of clergy wearing glasses and a clerical collar. (Heavy tarnishing to edges, spotting to plate and mat; retains original seal.) Housed in a fully separated pressed paper case (fully separated at spine, surface wear and discoloration). -- And 20 others, including 5 quarter plate daguerreotypes, 14 sixth plate daguerreotypes (including exampes by Tubbs and Willard), and one sixth plate tintype, some housed in full cases, others in half cases or no case. -- Together, 23 cased images of sitters with glasses.
