Lot Description
[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. A charming collection of 6 family portrait daguerreotypes and one ambrotype, including:
Half plate daguerreotype portrait of a family including mother, father, and 3 children, the children each wearing plaid pants. (Minor tarnishing to edges, some spotting to plate and preserver; retains portions of original seal and resealed with transparent tape 1994.) Housed in a half pressed paper case (wear to edges, corners). -- Quarter plate daguerreotype portrait of a family of 5 including a father, mother, two young ladies, and a young boy sitting on his parents' laps. Akron, OH: S.J. Miller, n.d. (Tarnishing to edges, spotting and clouding throughout plate, significant oxidation to mat; retains original seal.) Housed in a fully separated pressed paper case with velvet pad stamped for Miller (fully separated at spine, with surface wear throughout). Slip of paper accompanying image identifies each member of the Harrison family in pencil, including "J. Bradford Harrison is the baby." -- And 5 others, including a pair of sixth plate portraits, one daguerreotype and one tintype, of the same family, and 3 quarter plate daguerreotypes. -- Together, 7 family portraits, most housed in full or half cases, one housed under mat, glass, and preserver only.
